BlogAI Girlfriend Video: Which Apps Make Clips, and Which Ones Only Ring You

Half the apps selling "AI girlfriend video" send you audio over a frozen picture. Here's what each platform actually delivers, what it costs per clip or minute, and what happens to the files afterwards.

"AI girlfriend video" covers at least three different things, and the marketing rarely tells you which one you're buying. Sometimes it's a short generated clip: a few seconds of your companion moving, made from an image. Sometimes it's a live call where the avatar's mouth moves while you talk. And sometimes it's an audio call with a still picture on screen, sold under a video-shaped label.

We compared seven platforms โ€” OurDream AI, Secrets AI, Candy.ai, Kindroid, SweetBun, Anima and Replika โ€” using their pricing pages, help centres and privacy policies. No brand paid for a listing. Below is what each one actually offers, what it costs in coins, tokens or credits, and the caveats worth knowing before you top up.

The short version

If you want generated clips at a predictable price, OurDream AI is the clearest deal on paper: 100 dreamcoins for five seconds, capped at 60 seconds. If you want a companion that remembers what you told it last week, Secrets AI is the stronger pick and we rate it 9.9 overall. If a live, moving avatar during a call is the whole point, Kindroid has the most concrete announcement of the bunch. Candy.ai does pictures better than it does motion โ€” we score it 9.8 โ€” and its video is a conversion tool, not a call.

Three things people mean by "video"

Generated clips

You pick an image or a scene, the platform renders a few seconds of motion, and you get a file. OurDream, Secrets and Candy all work this way. It's asynchronous: you wait, then it appears. Great for a keepsake, useless if you wanted a conversation.

Live avatar calls

You speak, the avatar's face and sometimes hands move in response. Kindroid, SweetBun, Anima and Replika advertise this. It is the hardest thing to do well, and the one most likely to disappoint on a mid-range phone or a weak connection.

Audio calls dressed as video

A surprising number of apps market video calls and deliver a voice call over a static portrait. OurDream, Secrets and Candy sit here. That's not dishonesty exactly โ€” the picture is there โ€” but if you're paying per minute expecting motion, you'll notice.

OurDream AI: the best value per generated clip

OurDream charges 100 dreamcoins for five seconds of video, up to a 60-second maximum. An Ultra-quality clip costs 200 coins, and if you want audio on top, that's 20 coins per second โ€” which adds up fast on a long clip. Premium is $19.99 monthly, or $9.99 per month billed yearly, and includes unlimited coin-free chat plus 1,000 coins monthly. That's roughly ten short clips a month before you buy more.

Audio calls are 50 coins per minute. There's no live video call. Two caveats matter here. First, images and videos are blurred if your subscription lapses โ€” so if you've made something you want to keep, download it while you're paid up. Second, the homepage claims end-to-end encryption while the privacy policy describes server-side encryption. Those are not the same thing, and the policy is the document that counts.

OurDream bans real-person likenesses and deepfakes, which is the right call and worth knowing before you try uploading a photo of someone you know. We go deeper in our OurDream AI review.

Secrets AI: memory first, video second

Secrets prices video in Moments: 600 for an adult video, 50 for an image, 50 per minute for an audio call. Premium is $19.99 monthly or $109.99 yearly, and the annual plan includes 8,000 Moments โ€” around 13 clips. That's a reasonable bundle if you're mainly there for the conversation and make the occasional clip.

Two limits to plan around. There's no live video call at all, and the free tier can't create images or video, so you can't test the video quality before paying. Monthly Moments don't roll over, and Moments purchases are final. Secrets also deletes call audio after transcription, which is a genuine point in its favour; we cover the rest in our Secrets AI review. If you're weighing it against Candy specifically, the Secrets AI vs Candy AI comparison lays out the memory-versus-media trade.

Candy.ai: pictures yes, motion sort of

Candy's video is an image-to-video conversion, reported by reviewers at around 12 tokens per clip. Premium is $13.99 monthly or $3.99 per month billed yearly with 100 tokens monthly โ€” cheap on paper, but 100 tokens disappears quickly once you're converting images. Live Action scenes aren't two-way video, and the audio calls are labelled beta.

Refunds are tight: within 24 hours and only if you've used 20 tokens or fewer. Candy is at its best when you want stills, which is why we score its images 10 and its video lower. The full Candy.ai review has the token maths.

Kindroid: the most concrete live video call

Kindroid announced in March 2026 that live avatar video calls were out of beta for all subscribers. That's a real launch, not a roadmap line. The cost is quoted in audio credits: 2,000 per minute for standard video, 4,000 for higher resolution. Those figures come from Kindroid's own post, so check them in the app before you commit money.

Users report the avatar isn't always animated, and that when video fails the call falls back to audio with a blurred background. That's a sensible failure mode, but it means your expensive video minute can turn into a cheap audio one without warning. Kindroid's memory is one of its strengths; we score it โ€“.

SweetBun, Anima and Replika: worth a free test

SweetBun lists Live Webcam at 7 tokens per minute, audio at 3 per minute, images at 2 tokens each and video at 2 tokens per second. Premium includes 100 tokens monthly, but dollar prices aren't listed on the page we read โ€” and the webcam quality is unconfirmed beyond the marketing copy. Try it on a free tier before paying.

Anima advertises AI video chat with real-time reactions and claims adjustable appearance, accent and hand motions. Premium pricing isn't published, and the realism and encryption claims are Anima's own. Treat them as claims.

Replika's 2.0 rebuild, announced for 2026, promises lifelike 3D avatars, natural conversation and real-time video calls. Note the positioning: Replika presents itself as an AI friend, not an adult or romance roleplay app. If that's what you want, fine โ€” just don't buy it expecting otherwise.

Video calls versus voice calls: the honest difference

A voice call with an AI companion can be genuinely good. The voice is the whole channel, and modern models handle pauses and tone well enough to feel like a conversation. A video call adds a face that has to move convincingly in real time, and that's a much harder problem. When it works, it's striking. When it doesn't, you get a frozen portrait and a voice, which is the audio call you could have had for less.

If live video is the feature you care about, test it on a free tier or a cheap month first. Don't buy a year on the strength of a trailer.

How to get a clip that doesn't look wrong

  1. Start from a good still. Every platform here converts an image. A sharp, well-lit, front-facing portrait animates better than a soft or oddly cropped one.
  2. Pick the style before the motion. Style and tone settings shape the result more than the length of the clip.
  3. Keep it short first. Render five seconds, check it, then go longer. OurDream's 20-coins-per-second audio add-on is where budgets quietly die.
  4. Download immediately. OurDream blurs media when a subscription lapses; other platforms may change storage terms without much notice.
  5. Don't upload real people. OurDream bans real-person likenesses and deepfakes, and Secrets disallows uploads entirely. Beyond the rules, it's a consent problem.

Why people want this at all

Because a still image is a picture and a clip is a presence. A companion who moves, blinks and speaks feels less like a gallery and more like someone in the room. That's the appeal, and it's real. It's also the part most likely to break the illusion when the rendering is slightly off โ€” the uncanny gap between a face that moves and a face that responds.

Research on wellbeing and virtual companionship is mixed. Some people report comfort and reduced loneliness; others describe it crowding out real connection. Neither result is universal, and a video clip doesn't change that either way. Keep it as something you enjoy rather than something you lean on.

Privacy: what happens to the clips

None of the big three AI girlfriend apps offers verified end-to-end encryption. OurDream's homepage says end-to-end; its privacy policy says server-side. That gap is worth taking seriously. All of these platforms may use chats to train models, and generated clips are stored on platform servers, not in a private folder on your phone.

Practical steps: read the privacy policy rather than the landing page, assume anything you type could be reviewed, and don't put identifying details โ€” your address, your workplace, a real person's name โ€” into a chat. If a platform deletes call audio after transcription, as Secrets says it does, that's a point in its favour, but it isn't the same as end-to-end encryption.

Frequently asked questions

Covered in the FAQ section below the article.

Bottom line

For generated clips, OurDream gives you the most predictable price per second, provided you download what you make and don't rely on the encryption claim. For a companion worth talking to between clips, Secrets is the better app and we rate it 9.9 overall. For an actual live video call, Kindroid has the most concrete offering, with the caveat that its credit costs come from its own announcement and its avatar doesn't always animate.

SweetBun, Anima and Replika are worth a free test if live video is your priority โ€” but check the price per clip or per minute before you subscribe, and read the privacy policy before you tell anyone anything true. Browse the full reviews hub if you want to compare beyond video.

Frequently asked questions

Not really. The free tiers on OurDream, Secrets and Candy can't generate video at all, and live video calls need a paid plan almost everywhere โ€” the free plan's call tool is usually locked. You can sometimes test the app's chat for free, but not the video.

Kindroid, SweetBun, Anima and Replika advertise live video where the companion actually moves. OurDream, Secrets and Candy are audio-only calls with a still image on screen, despite how the feature is sometimes marketed.

Check the download options while your subscription is active. OurDream blurs all images and videos if your subscription lapses, so download anything you want to keep before you cancel or let a plan expire.
