What we like
- Among the most photorealistic AI companion images in the category, with consistent faces across generations
- Very cheap entry on the annual plan ($3.99/month, billed $47.88)
- Multimedia: images, image-to-video, voice notes, beta voice calls and interactive Live Action scenes
- Detailed character builder covering ethnicity, body, hair, personality, voice and hobbies; girls, guys and anime
- Payment options include card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer and crypto; discreet 'EverAI' billing descriptor
Watch out for
- Only 100 tokens a month on Premium, so heavy image, video or voice users typically pay $25โ80 a month in total
- Weak long-term conversational memory: testers report storylines resetting after 48โ72 hours
- Strict refund window: 24 hours and no more than 20 tokens used, card payments only
- Free tier is only 5 messages, so you can't really test it without paying
- No native iOS/Android app (PWA only)
Candy.ai is the platform people point to when they want a companion who looks like a photograph rather than a cartoon. That reputation is earned: face consistency across generations is the best part of the product. The parts around it โ memory, the token economy, the refund window โ are where the enthusiasm cools.
We rate Candy.ai 9.8 out of 10 overall. This review runs through what you actually get, what the tokens cost, who runs the thing, and what happens when you want your money back. Nothing here comes from a test account of ours; it rests on published pricing, the terms of service, the privacy notice and what paying users report.
The short version
Candy.ai is a web-based AI girlfriend and companion platform from EverAI Limited, a Maltese company. It launched in 2023 and covers text chat, generated images, image-to-video clips, voice messages and beta voice calls. Premade characters include girlfriends, boyfriends and anime styles, and there is a detailed builder if you want to make your own.
The visuals are the reason to be here. The reason to hesitate is that images, video, voice and custom characters all run on tokens, and the monthly allowance is small.

Those numbers move. Platforms ship updates, change prices and tighten or loosen their policies, and we adjust scores when that happens. Treat them as a snapshot, not a permanent ranking.
What Candy.ai is, and who runs it
The company behind Candy.ai is EverAI Limited, registered at 56 Central Business Centre, Triq Is-Soll, Santa Venera SVR 1833, Malta. That matters for two practical reasons: Maltese companies fall under GDPR, and the billing descriptor on your statement reads "EverAI", not "Candy" โ a deliberate bit of discretion for anyone who shares a bank account.
There is no native iOS or Android app. Candy.ai runs in a browser and can be installed as a progressive web app through "Add to Home Screen". The interface is available in 13 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, the Scandinavian languages, Japanese and Polish. Support runs through Zendesk, described by the company as 24/7, plus email, a help centre, a contact form and a Discord server.
Candy has been reported as claiming 50 million users. The company publishes no verifiable user count, so treat that figure as marketing rather than a measurement.
Character creation: the builder is genuinely deep
You can start from the premade catalogue โ reviewers count more than 100 characters across girlfriends, boyfriends and anime styles โ or build your own through the "Create My AI" flow. The builder covers ethnicity, age, body, hair, personality, voice and hobbies. One 2026 review counted 47 adjustable parameters. We can't confirm that exact number, but the breadth is consistent with what Candy advertises.
Creating a custom character costs about 10 tokens. Free accounts get one.
The Premium Plus tier adds extras the base plan doesn't have: user personas, 20 memory slots, chat cloning and three-day early access to new characters. If you like the idea of a companion who is configured rather than picked off a shelf, that's the tier that matters.
Image generation: the strongest part of the product
Candy's images are the reason it gets recommended. Faces stay consistent between generations, which is the thing most competitors fumble โ you ask for the same character in a new pose and get a stranger with similar hair. Reviewers across the category consistently put Candy's realism and consistency near the top.
Premium unlocks 18+ image generation, and the company says Premium users get HD output. Candy also claimed in January 2026 that image errors dropped by 70%. That's a vendor claim, not something we can verify.
What an image costs: testers in September 2026 reported roughly 4 tokens per image. Older reviews put it at 1โ3. Either way, 100 monthly tokens is somewhere around 25 images a month โ enough to enjoy the feature, not enough to use it freely.
Live Action and video: short clips, selected characters
Video on Candy.ai means image-to-video conversion, not text-to-video from scratch. You generate a still and animate it. Testers put a basic clip at about 12 tokens.
The more interesting feature is Live Action, reportedly launched in February 2026. It produces interactive clips up to 120 seconds with Automatic Story and Scenario modes. The catch is availability: Live Action is limited to selected characters, and Candy Shorts are unlocked with tokens. Free users get no video at all.
Do the arithmetic on 100 tokens and you land at roughly eight short videos a month. If video is your main interest, the base Premium plan will feel like a sampler.
Voice: messages yes, calls in beta
Voice messages are included for subscribers, and voice calls are in beta at about 3 tokens per minute. That's a real cost โ a half-hour call is around 90 tokens, most of a month's allowance.
Voice is the weakest of the multimedia features in our scoring. It works, but it isn't where Candy leads the field. If voice conversation is central to what you want, a platform built around it will serve you better.
Chat and roleplay
Text chat is unlimited for subscribers, which is the right way to structure it: no meter running on the thing you do most. SFW and NSFW modes are both supported, with uncensored chat and 18+ media for Premium users. Content involving minors is prohibited outright.
Response times average around 1 to 1.5 seconds per message, which keeps a conversation feeling like a conversation rather than a wait. Roleplay scenarios are available, and the character's personality settings from the builder carry into chat.
Memory: where the illusion breaks
This is Candy's soft spot, and it's worth being blunt about it. Several testers report storylines resetting after 48 to 72 hours. Long-term recall reportedly weakens after 7 to 10 days.
In practice that means the companion who remembered your job, your sister's name and the argument you had last Tuesday may not remember any of it by the weekend. For a one-off roleplay that's fine. For the thing most people actually want from a companion โ continuity โ it's a real limitation.
There are partial workarounds. Premium Plus includes 20 memory slots, which let you pin facts you want held onto. And it's worth knowing that the Reset/Delete Chat function clears that chat's memory along with the messages, so don't use it casually if you're mid-storyline.
Conversation quality itself improved between 2025 and 2026 but still trails Replika. A recurring complaint is that Candy defaults to agreement โ it tells you what you want to hear rather than pushing back. If you want friction, disagreement or emotional challenge from a companion, this isn't the platform that provides it. Secrets AI is the name that comes up more often for memory-first users.
Pricing: the sticker price and the real price
The headline numbers are genuinely low. The trouble is that the headline plan doesn't include much media.
| Plan | Price per month | Billed | Tokens per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | n/a | None (5 messages, 1 character, 1 image) |
| Premium monthly | $13.99 | $13.99 every month | 100 |
| Premium 3 months | $8.99 | $26.97 every 3 months | 100 |
| Premium 12 months | $3.99 | $47.88 per year | 100 |
| Premium Plus | Not published (shown at checkout) | Varies | 330 |
Candy advertises the 12-month plan as up to 70% off the monthly price, and the arithmetic checks out against the listed rates. Prices may display in euros in Europe. Some older reviews quote $12.99 a month and $5.99 a month on a $69.99 annual plan; those figures don't match what's currently listed, so check the checkout page rather than a review, including this one.
Premium Plus pricing isn't published โ you see it at checkout. For the extra money you get 330 tokens a month, personas, memory slots, chat clones, early access and a 10% bonus on top-ups bought quarterly or yearly.
What tokens actually buy
| Item | Tokens |
|---|---|
| Image | About 4 (older reports: 1โ3) |
| Image-to-video clip | About 12 |
| Voice call | About 3 per minute |
| Custom character | 10 |
| Private content packs | 100 to 400 |
Top-up packs are reported from $9.99 for 100 tokens up to $299.99 for 3,750. Users who generate a lot of media commonly report spending an extra $15 to $40 a month on packs. A realistic active-user total lands somewhere between $25 and $60 a month, with some reporting $80.
Two things to know before you buy tokens. First, unused tokens expire at the end of the billing period after you cancel โ they aren't refunded. Second, yearly subscribers receive their 100 tokens monthly rather than all at once, which is sensible but easy to misread.
The free version is barely a version
A free account gets 5 messages in total, across all characters, plus one custom character and one image. No tokens, no 18+ media.
Five messages is not enough to judge whether a conversation engine suits you. It's enough to see the interface and decide whether you like the look of the catalogue. Anyone telling you they "tested Candy for free" and formed a view on its chat quality is describing something very short.
Privacy and safety: reasonable, not private
EverAI Limited is the data controller and GDPR applies. Passwords are stored encrypted and data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 or higher. There is no end-to-end encryption, and Candy doesn't claim there is โ which is honest, but means your chats sit on servers rather than being readable only by you.
The part worth reading carefully is the training language. Per the privacy notice, prompts and outputs may be aggregated, anonymised or de-identified and used to train and develop AI and moderation models, including dataset preparation with human review. Message content may be shared with third-party LLM providers, hosting providers and moderation vendors. No opt-out is described.
Retention: account data is kept up to 3 years after your last activity, possibly shortened to 1 year, or until you request deletion. Log files go after 30 days. You can delete your account in Settings > Danger Zone.
On age checks, there's a self-declared 18+ gate on entry, and the privacy notice says third-party age estimation or identity verification may apply depending on your location.
On content, the rules are strict where they need to be: anything involving or resembling minors is banned, and known CSAM is reported to NCMEC. An automated filter can flag messages. That's the floor, not a bonus.
Refunds and cancellation: read this before paying
The refund window is 24 hours from payment, and it's denied if you've used more than 20 tokens. Token-pack refunds follow the same 24-hour rule and only apply if the tokens are unused. Only card payments are refundable. There are no refunds for user-side technical problems, moderation actions or removed content.
EU and UK users have a 14-day withdrawal right, refunded minus a prorated amount for services consumed. That's the law, not a favour.
Crypto payments โ BTC, ETH, USDC, LTC and others โ cannot be refunded at all. If you're unsure about a year-long commitment, paying in crypto removes your exit.
Cancellation is straightforward: My Profile > Settings > Unsubscribe, and access continues to the end of the billing period. Deleting your account before the renewal date also cancels the subscription. Plans auto-renew, so put a reminder in your calendar if the annual price was the reason you signed up.
Payment methods include Visa, Mastercard, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer via Volt or Pix, and crypto. Charges appear as "EverAI".
Legitimacy and the negatives worth knowing
Candy.ai is a real, registered company with published terms and a privacy policy, not a scam site. It is also not a company with a spotless reputation record. Its Trustpilot profile was removed for guideline violations after sitting at around 3.8 out of 5. That's a signal about review integrity in both directions โ neither the glowing reviews nor the angry ones should be taken at face value.
Other things to keep in mind:
- Remaining tokens expire at the end of the billing period after cancellation, and are not refunded.
- The refund window is 24 hours and 20 tokens. That's tight.
- No end-to-end encryption, and chats may be human-reviewed as part of moderation dataset work.
- No described opt-out from having prompts and outputs used for training.
- Live Action is limited to selected characters, and there's no text-to-video from scratch.
- Memory resets after 48โ72 hours in reported cases.
- Avoid unofficial Candy AI APKs and mod files. There's no native app, so anything claiming to be one is not from the company.
- The 50 million user figure and the 70% image-error improvement claim are both unverified vendor statements.
Is it any good as emotional support?
Honestly: it's a mixed fit. The platform is good at scenes, images and short arcs. It's weaker at the slow accumulation of shared context that makes a companion feel like they know you. The tendency to agree with everything is pleasant for a while and thin after that.
If what you want is a visually rich roleplay with someone who looks real, Candy delivers. If what you want is a presence that remembers your week, look at memory-focused platforms first. Neither use is more legitimate than the other; they're just different products.
How Candy.ai compares
| Platform | Best for | Price from | Credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candy.ai | Photorealistic images and video | $3.99/month (yearly) | 100 tokens/month |
| Secrets AI | Long-term memory and voice calls | $9.17/month (yearly) | 8,000 Moments/month |
| OurDream AI | Lots of images and video for the money | $9.99/month (yearly) | 1,000 dreamcoins/month |
Secrets AI charges $19.99 a month or $109.99 a year for Premium, with an Ultimate tier at $39.99. Its pitch is memory and voice, which is precisely where Candy is weakest. OurDream AI includes around 1,000 dreamcoins a month โ roughly 200 images โ though images and videos are blurred if the subscription lapses. Nomi AI sits at $15.99 a month, or $8.33 a month billed yearly, and has native iOS and Android apps.
Which one wins depends on what you'd regret more: running out of tokens, or being forgotten.
Who it suits
Candy.ai fits you if images and short video are the point, you like configuring a character in detail, and you're comfortable watching a token balance. The annual plan at $3.99 a month is a cheap way in, provided you understand it buys unlimited text and 100 tokens โ not unlimited media.
It fits you less if you want a companion with continuity, if voice calls are central, or if you'd rather pay one flat price and stop thinking about credits. Privacy-sensitive users should weigh the training language and the three-year retention before signing up, and anyone paying in crypto should assume no refund path exists.
The verdict
Candy.ai is a polished, legitimate platform with the best image generation in its niche and a Live Action video feature that stands out. It is also a platform where the advertised $3.99 can turn into $25, $60 or $80 a month once you start generating, where memory resets within days, and where the refund window is measured in hours rather than weeks.
Buy it for the pictures. Don't buy it expecting a companion who remembers last week. If you're new, start with one month, watch your token spend for the first fortnight, and decide before the renewal whether the media habit justifies the annual price.
Frequently asked questions
For visuals, yes: image quality and character consistency are among the best in the category, and the annual plan is cheap to enter. But 100 monthly tokens runs out quickly, and heavy media users often end up paying $25โ$80 a month in total. As a conversational companion with long-term memory, it's weaker.
Only barely. A free account gets 5 messages in total, one custom character and one image, with no tokens and no 18+ media. Unlimited chat, images, video and voice all need a paid plan, so you can't really judge the conversation engine without paying.
It's run by EverAI Limited, a Maltese company subject to GDPR, with encryption in transit and discreet 'EverAI' billing. But there's no end-to-end encryption, chats may be de-identified and used to train models with human review, and account data is kept up to three years after last activity.
No. There's no App Store or Play Store app โ Candy.ai runs in mobile browsers and can be installed as a progressive web app via 'Add to Home Screen'. Avoid any APK or mod file claiming to be an official Candy app.
Only within 24 hours of payment, and only if you've used 20 tokens or fewer. Token packs are refundable within 24 hours only if unused, and only card payments qualify โ crypto payments can't be refunded. EU and UK users have a 14-day withdrawal right, prorated for what they've used.
