BlogIs Secrets AI Free? What the Free Tier Actually Gives You

Yes, Secrets AI has a permanent free tier: 20 text messages a day, basic memory, no pictures, no video, no calls you can afford. Here's what it does and doesn't cover, and what paid plans cost.

Short answer: yes, but it's a chat-only kind of free. Secrets AI runs a permanent free tier rather than a seven-day trial. You get 20 text messages per day, every day, with no expiry date and no card needed at signup according to third-party guides. You don't get Moments, and without Moments there are no pictures, no video, no voice calls and no extra custom characters. That's the whole trade.

Below is what the free tier includes, what it doesn't, what the paid tiers cost, and how to work out in about twenty messages whether the free version is enough for you. Prices and terms here were checked against the vendor's own pages, its wiki, its privacy policy and user reports as of late September 2026. Platforms change; treat every number as a snapshot.

The free tier, line by line

Twenty messages per day is the headline. Each free message is capped at 500 characters, so you're writing short turns rather than long paragraphs. Replies come from the S3 and X-3 chat modes, not the top model. You get the standard character library, basic memory, and one custom character of your own.

That last point catches people out. One custom character is included; additional ones cost 500 Moments each, and free accounts can't buy Moments. If you like building a cast, the free tier quietly stops at a cast of one.

The daily message cap is tied to your device according to the vendor's official data. That's worth knowing if you share a household or switch between phone and laptop, because it isn't a per-session allowance.

What you can't do on free:

  • Generate images or video of any kind
  • Make voice calls (the option is listed, but calls cost Moments per minute and free accounts have none)
  • Buy Moments top-ups
  • Use premium memory, Time Travel, Lorebooks, group chats or personas
  • Send messages longer than 500 characters

Basic memory on the free tier is exactly that. One third-party estimate puts free recall at two to three exchanges before context starts slipping; Secrets publishes no figure of its own. Don't assume the free tier remembers a conversation from yesterday, because nothing in the official material promises recall across sessions.

Is there a free trial of Premium?

No. There's no time-limited Premium trial. The permanent free tier is the trial, and it's a reasonable one: a month of daily use tells you more about the chat model than three days of unlimited access would.

One more thing to clear up, because it shows up in several places. Some pages and older versions of the homepage mention 200 bonus Moments for new accounts. The vendor's wiki quickstart references a one-time 200 Moments grant; the tiers page lists no Moment grant for free accounts at all. The claim is unsettled, so don't plan around it. The only bonus we can confirm is a one-time 25 Moments for enabling push notifications in the installed web app.

What Premium and Ultimate cost

Secrets AI sells two tiers. Premium is the one most people will want; Ultimate adds the heavier memory and social features.

FeatureFreePremiumUltimate
Price$0$19.99/month or $109.99/year$39.99/month or $319.99/year

Monthly MomentsNone; can't buy8,00015,000

MemoryBasicPremium memory, LorebooksUltimate memory, fullest Lorebooks
Group chats and personasNoNoYes

Premium unlocks unlimited messaging, the 8,000 Moments, video generation, the S5 model, Time Travel, premium memory and Lorebooks, plus messages up to 1,000 characters. Ultimate adds 15,000 Moments, the S4 model with Max thinking, ultimate memory, the fullest Lorebooks, group chats with two or three companions, personas, proactive messages and personality editing.

The jump from $0 to $19.99 a month is steep for anyone testing the water, and there's no cheap rung in between. The old Lite plan at $5.99 with 1,000 Moments and the Plus plan at $9.99 have been retired, so any guide quoting them is out of date.

Billing cycles and the annual discount

Premium can be paid monthly, quarterly, semiannually or yearly. The longer you commit, the lower the effective monthly rate, and the annual discount is real rather than decorative.

PlanBillingEffective monthlyMoments/month
Premium$19.99 monthly$19.998,000
Premium$49.99 every 3 months$16.668,000
Premium$89.99 every 6 months$15.008,000
Premium$109.99 yearly$9.178,000
Ultimate$39.99 monthly$39.9915,000
Ultimate$319.99 yearly$26.6715,000

Annual Premium saves about 54% against paying monthly: $109.99 versus $239.88. Annual Ultimate saves about 33%: $319.99 versus $479.88. If you're going to pay at all, the yearly Premium price is the one to compare against every other app in the category. Our full Secrets AI review goes through memory, Moments and the rest in more depth.

How Moments work, and why free users can't touch them

Moments are the in-app currency behind everything visual or spoken. You don't buy Moments directly on the free tier because there's no allowance to top up; they arrive with a paid plan.

ActionMoments per use
Image50 (100 at 2K)
Adult video clip600
Voice call per minute50
Text-to-speech per 100 characters10
Extra custom character500

Premium's 8,000 monthly Moments work out to roughly 160 images or about 13 adult video clips, and you can't have both without running dry. Adult clips run about eight seconds; SFW clips can go to 15 seconds and cost more. Voice calls at 50 Moments a minute mean a 20-minute call eats 1,000 Moments, or an eighth of a Premium month in one sitting.

Two billing rules matter. Plan Moments reset monthly and unused grants vanish; purchased top-ups don't expire, which is the opposite of what most people assume. Failed generations are refunded automatically.

What the free tier's chat actually feels like

Reviewers rate the chat quality at 4.4 out of 5, and that assessment isn't split by tier: the writing itself holds up. What differs on free is the model behind it (S3 and X-3 rather than S5) and the memory ceiling. Premium memory is advertised as roughly four times the access and 60% more context than the free baseline, per the vendor's own tier list. You'll notice the difference in how far back a companion can reach, not in whether the replies read well.

Secrets AI does memory better than most of its rivals and prices the good version separately. If long-term continuity is the reason you're here, the free tier will frustrate you within a week. If you want to chat with a library character for ten minutes over coffee, it's fine.

We rate Secrets AI 9.9 overall, with memory at 9.9 and value at 7.9.

The cheapest way to use Secrets AI

If you only want text chat and don't care about continuity, stay on free. Twenty messages a day is enough for a short daily conversation, and it costs nothing.

If you want pictures or video, free can't help you at any price, so the question becomes which paid tier. For most people that's annual Premium at $109.99, about $9.17 a month. It's the cheapest route to unlimited messages plus 8,000 Moments, and you can drop to monthly if you'd rather not commit.

Ultimate only earns its price if you need group chats, personas, proactive messages or the S4 model with Max thinking. For one companion and some images, it's overkill.

One billing quirk: because there's no native app, there are no in-app purchases, so you pay on the website. Card statements show S LABS INC rather than the product name, per the vendor's own pages. Some third-party sites mention a different billing label; we found no official support for that, so treat S LABS INC as the one to look for.

Test it in twenty messages

You can learn a lot in one day's allowance. Try this:

  1. Open a library character and send a short opening. Keep each message under 500 characters or it'll be cut.
  2. Ask the character to recall a specific detail from three or four messages back. On free, this is where basic memory usually shows its limit.
  3. Try a second custom character. You'll hit the one-character ceiling and be offered the 500-Moment purchase you can't make.
  4. Look at the voice call button. It's there; the Moments aren't.
  5. If the chat carries the conversation and you don't miss the pictures, free is genuinely enough. If you find yourself rationing your twentieth message at lunchtime, you have your answer.

Browser only, and what that means

There's no native iOS or Android app and no desktop client. Secrets AI runs in the browser and is mobile responsive, and you can install it as a PWA: Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android and desktop. Installed that way it supports push notifications, which is where the confirmed 25 Moments bonus comes from.

The vendor's own wiki warns that any "Secrets" app on the App Store or Google Play is unaffiliated. Given the name overlaps with other products entirely, that warning is worth taking seriously. There's more on the app situation in our piece on the Secrets AI app.

Privacy on a free account

Secrets AI is operated by Secret Labs Inc., and the privacy policy is more specific than most in this category. It lists encryption in transit and at rest, with AES-256 at rest. Voice audio is deleted right after transcription. Chat history and profile data are deleted immediately on account deletion, though some guides still say 30 days; the official policy is the faster one.

Two caveats. Some marketing pages and the homepage have claimed end-to-end encryption, but the privacy policy lists only at-rest and in-transit encryption. That's not the same thing: on the policy as written, servers can read your chats. And the policy allows using data to improve AI models. There's no Private Mode documented in the official policy, whatever third-party sites say. One independent rating puts privacy at 2.9 out of 5, which lines up with what the policy actually promises rather than the marketing.

Payments go through PCI-DSS compliant processors. Practically: don't type your real name, address or workplace into a free chat, and assume anything you write may be reviewed to improve the model.

Refunds, age and the small print

Moments and subscriptions are generally final unless local law says otherwise. EU and UK buyers have 14 days to withdraw. Crypto purchases are never refundable. The service is 18+ only, adult content throughout.

One naming trap: Secrets AI is not Secret Desires, which is a separate AI companion product. If you've read something about Secret Desires and assumed it applies here, it doesn't.

If free isn't enough, what else is free

Twenty messages a day is on the generous side for a daily cap, but the total absence of media on free is stricter than some rivals. Here's how the alternatives' free tiers compare.

PlatformWhat $0 getsPaid from
Nomi AILimited daily messages (about 50 reported), one active Nomi$15.99/month or $99.99/year
SpicyChatCharacter library and creation, ads and queue$5.95/month
Janitor AIFree roleplay on own model, peak-hour queues$12.99/month (Janitor+)
OurDream AIDreamcoin messages, one coin each, no free media$9.99/month (annual)
Candy AI5 messages total and one image$3.99/month (annual)

Nomi gives you more messages and stronger memory but only one companion. SpicyChat and Janitor are roleplay sites with big libraries and short free memory, and both queue you at busy times. OurDream AI and Candy.ai give you far less on free than Secrets' daily 20, though Candy's annual price is the lowest in the table. If a daily cap is your main complaint, our roundup of free AI girlfriend options sorts them by what you actually get.

Bottom line

Secrets AI's free tier is honest: it's a permanent, card-free daily chat allowance with no media and basic memory. It's not a disguised trial and it doesn't expire. What it won't do is show you a picture, place a call or remember much. If you want any of those, annual Premium at about $9.17 a month is the sensible buy, and monthly Premium at $19.99 is there if you'd rather not commit. If $19.99 a month is too much and free feels tight, start with a platform whose free tier is more generous and come back when the media matters more than the money.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. There's no expiry date and no card needed at signup, according to third-party guides. It stays at 20 text messages daily with basic memory and no media, so it's a permanent allowance rather than a trial.

No. Every image, video clip and voice call is paid for with Moments, and free accounts get no Moments and can't buy any. Media starts at Premium, which includes 8,000 Moments a month.

Annual Premium at $109.99, which works out to about $9.17 a month and saves roughly 54% against paying monthly. If you don't want to commit for a year, Premium is $19.99 a month.

It's a legitimate product run by Secret Labs Inc., with encryption in transit and at rest and immediate deletion of chat history on account deletion. But chats are not end-to-end encrypted according to the privacy policy, and data may be used to improve AI models, so keep identifying details out.

No. Secret Desires is a separate AI companion app with no connection to Secrets AI. Anything you read about Secret Desires' pricing or features doesn't apply here.
