GuideAI Girlfriend Reviews: Every App We've Scored, in One Place

A map of our AI girlfriend and companion reviews, sorted into companion-first, visual-first, roleplay and risky apps, with the pricing and privacy catch spelled out for each.

This is the index page for our AI girlfriend reviews. Every app below has a full write-up elsewhere on the site; the number you see is the score quoted from that review, not a fresh verdict invented for the table. The audience is adults, 18 and over, choosing between girlfriend apps and AI companions โ€” so we assume you care about memory, media, price and what happens to your chats, and not much else.

How our ratings work

Two things to know before you read a single number.

First, these are editorial judgments built from published information: pricing pages, terms and privacy policies, app store listings, vendor announcements and what users report in public. We don't run test accounts and we don't claim hands-on time. If a vendor says its characters have five levels of relationship progression, that's a claim we attribute to the vendor, not a feature we've verified by chatting.

Second, our scales changed over time. Older reviews use a 5-point scale, newer ones use 10. That means a 3/5 and a 6.5/10 are not the same thing and shouldn't be compared to each other. Compare apps inside a table, never across two tables. And the tables are alphabetical, not ranked โ€” the order tells you nothing.

Scores move as platforms change. We rewrite them when pricing shifts, features appear or disappear, or a company's record gets worse. Treat any score as a snapshot with a date on it.

Companion-first apps

These are built around a single ongoing relationship: one character, long memory, conversation over spectacle. If you want someone to talk to on a Tuesday night, start here.

AppRatingStandout
Blush3/5Flirting practice; pricey
EVA3.4/5Subscription plus Neurons
Heartthrob5.5/10Text-only; few features
Kajiwoto3.3 out of 5Train own companion; no adult content
Kindroid8/10Deep customization; costly top tiers
Anima3.2/5Cheap; weaker recall
NastiaNo overall scoreConfusing pricing
Nomi8 out of 10Strong recall; weaker images
Replika3.5 out of 5Supportive; forgets, upsells
Romantic AI3/5Shallow memory; weak privacy
Secrets8.0 out of 10Week-to-week memory; no free images

Our Secrets AI review gives it 9.9 out of 10, and the reason is memory that holds from one week to the next rather than resetting every session. The catch is images: there's no free tier for them. The full Secrets AI review covers how the credit system works.

Kindroid and Nomi both sit at 8/10 for different reasons. Kindroid is the deepest customization we've assessed, with voice and video calls, and top tiers that cost accordingly. Nomi wins on recall but is weaker on images. Replika, at 3.5 out of 5, is friendly daily chat and emotional support rather than romance โ€” it forgets things and it upsells. Replika publishes no prices on its own site; review sites list Pro at $19.99 monthly, and in August 2026 annual plans were reported at โ‚ฌ67.99 and โ‚ฌ75.99 in the EU. Nomi's App Store Standard plan is listed at $15.99 monthly or $99.99 yearly.

Underneath most of these apps is the same mechanic: a language model reads the chat context so the character stays consistent and can simulate intimacy. When recall is weak, that context window is where it breaks โ€” the character doesn't remember what you told it, and the illusion thins out.

Visual-first apps

Here the pictures are the product. Expect photorealistic galleries, image generation, sometimes video, and a credit system bolted on top of the subscription.

OurDream7.8 out of 10Short story recall
Secret Desires6.8/10Privacy history
Vidqu5.5/10Not a serious companion

Candy.ai rates 9.8 out of 10: excellent pictures, thin long-term memory. Pricing is where people get caught. Some roundups say Candy starts at $12.99 monthly with token pricing; our own review found $13.99 for one month, with the annual plan working out to $3.99 monthly. Media draws on a 100-token monthly allowance. One roundup credits it with extensive customization and branching roleplay โ€” worth reading, but it's their claim, not ours. The Candy.ai review breaks down the token maths.

OurDream AI scores 9.7 out of 10 โ€” you get a lot of media for the money, but story recall is short. It's priced in Dreamcoins, and the OurDream AI review explains what that does to a monthly budget. Joi is run by a legitimate Cyprus company, but the Neurons wallet adds cost on top of whatever you're already paying.

Two patterns repeat across this table. Renewal prices step up (DreamGF), and credits are hard to budget (Nectar). Kupid draws frequent billing complaints. Darlink has three memory levels but also cancellation complaints. GoLove's Live video mode is a draw; its refund window is short.

Roleplay community platforms

Less girlfriend, more library. You browse characters other people made, or build your own, and the quality varies wildly.

AppRatingVerdict
Botify6.2/10Mixed safety record
Chai3.4 out of 5Ads and message limits
CrushOn6.8 out of 10Weak on privacy
Janitor3.8 out of 5Unpolished as companion
Joyland6.5 out of 1010 free credits daily; thin privacy
JuicyChat6.4 out of 10Loosely filtered
PolyBuzz6.5 out of 10Ads, coins, strict filter
SpicyChat7.0 out of 10No native iOS app
Talkie3.5 out of 5Gem economy; short memory

SpicyChat is the strongest of this group at 7.0/10, mostly unfiltered, but there's no native iOS app. CrushOn has a huge library and many models, and a privacy record we're not comfortable with. PolyBuzz is large but ad-supported and coin-based, with a strict filter. Talkie is voice-first with a gem economy and short memory. Janitor is fine for tinkerers and unpolished as a companion.

Character.AI, HeyReal and Dream AI aren't reviewed by us. Character.AI offers unlimited free messaging and community characters with no adult content; HeyReal says users can customize personality and behavior; a HeyReal blog post says Dream AI customizes 3D characters. Treat all of that as vendor claims.

Closed and risky apps

Some of these you can't use at all any more. Others you probably shouldn't.

AppRatingCaution
Aisekai1.5/5Reported shut down
Dittin2.5/5Status disputed; unverified privacy
Moemate1/10Reportedly closed February 2025
MuahNo overall scoreAbout 1.9 million emails leaked in 2024
SmutChat2.5/5 provisionalNo clear owner, prices or data details
ThotChatNo overall scoreReported shutdown December 31, 2025

Muah is the one to read carefully: around 1.9 million emails leaked in 2024, with prompts included. Dittin's status is disputed and its privacy claims are unverified. SmutChat doesn't have a clear owner, published prices or data details, which is three red flags in one line. If you're paying for any of these, check whether you can still cancel.

What our reviews keep finding

  • Weak recall is the top complaint across our ratings, followed by repetitive responses. It's the difference between a companion and a stranger with your name saved.
  • The sticker price is rarely the real price. Most apps charge extra for images, voice or longer memory. Tokens, coins, chips, gems, credits and Neurons are all the same idea wearing different hats. Users widely report paywall frustration.
  • No app covers every preference. The ones with advanced features tend to have gaps somewhere else โ€” a great image engine with short memory, or deep memory with weak visuals.
  • Money is moving fast. Research and Markets sizes the AI girlfriend app market at $2.91B in 2026, and Sensor Tower reports spending outpacing user growth.

Privacy and security

This is the part of the market that most deserves a hard look. Wired has reported that AI girlfriend apps collect huge amounts of user data. In 2024, Mozilla found 10 of 11 romantic chatbots failed minimum security standards, and its Privacy Not Included work found Replika accounts could be created with weak passwords. One widely shared roundup claims 344 million-plus private messages were exposed in breaches within 18 months โ€” we can't verify that figure and won't present it as fact, but the direction of travel matches what the documented cases show.

Many apps aren't transparent about how they use your data. A practical routine before you type anything personal:

  • Use a separate email address for these accounts.
  • Don't use your real name, and don't share details that could identify you.
  • Read the deletion policy โ€” can you actually get your chats removed?
  • Check there's a clear contact for support and complaints.

Some apps are safer than others. None should be trusted blindly, and nothing you'd hate to see leaked belongs in a chat window.

Emotional wellbeing

The honest case for these apps: availability without scheduling, judgment-free conversation, no fear of rejection. Studies describe AI companions serving as emotional support, or as a friend-equal role, and that's real for some people.

The honest case against: the same studies link heavy reliance to lower life satisfaction, and prolonged use can worsen loneliness. A Stanford study involving Character.AI found that people with small offline networks felt lonelier after chatbot support. Stanford also warns that vulnerable users may blur fantasy and reality, and that attachments formed with these characters bring grief โ€” when a platform changes models or shuts down, as Aisekai, Moemate and ThotChat reportedly did, something ends. HeyReal's own list of risks names emotional detachment, unrealistic expectations, isolation and weaker conflict resolution. That's a vendor listing its own category's downsides, which is worth noting.

What other reviews say

Worth knowing where our read differs from the consensus. Roundups often call Nomi the best for conversation โ€” we agree on recall. Replika tends to be framed as emotional wellness rather than romance, which matches our 3.5 out of 5. BeCraved claims 47,000+ members, a 4.9 rating and five-level relationship progression; those are its numbers, not ours. Where roundups and our reviews diverge most is price: marketing figures often quote the cheapest monthly rate, while our reviews work out what a year actually costs once media credits are included.

How to choose

  1. Decide what you actually want: memory, visuals, or story. They pull in different directions and no app is best at all three.
  2. Start free where a free tier exists, and note how small it is (HeraHaven's is small; Joyland gives 10 free credits daily).
  3. Work out the token cost before subscribing. Multiply the monthly allowance by what you'll realistically use.
  4. Read the privacy section of the full review, not just the score.
  5. Check the cancellation and refund terms โ€” GoLove's refund window is short, and Darlink and Kupid both draw billing complaints.

Bottom line

Our highest 10-point scores go to Secrets at 8.0, Kindroid at 8 and Nomi at 8 โ€” memory-led apps, each with its own gap. Use this page as a map: pick the category that matches what you want, open the full review, and read the watch-out notes before you enter card details. The scores will move. The traps won't.

Frequently asked questions

On our 10-point scale, Secrets at 8.0, Kindroid at 8 and Nomi at 8 lead. Which one suits you depends on whether you care more about memory or media, and each has a clear gap โ€” Secrets charges for images, Kindroid's top tiers are expensive, and Nomi's visuals are weaker than its conversation.

Some are safer than others, but none should be trusted blindly. Mozilla found 10 of 11 romantic chatbots failed minimum security standards in 2024, and many apps aren't transparent about data use. Use a separate email, skip real names, and check the deletion policy before you share anything sensitive.

No. At best these apps offer casual comfort and judgment-free conversation on demand. Research links heavy reliance to lower life satisfaction, and a Stanford study found some users with small offline networks felt lonelier after chatbot support, so balance matters.

Our older reviews used a 5-point scale and newer ones use 10. Compare apps only within the same table, never across two, and remember the tables are alphabetical rather than ranked.
