GuideMuah AI Alternatives: What to Pick, and Why You're Probably Leaving

Most people don't leave Muah AI over one thing. It's the 2024 breach, the $99.99 call tier, and a memory that resets every few dozen messages. Here's where to go instead.

People leave Muah AI for four reasons, and the right replacement depends on which one is yours. If it's the 2024 breach and a privacy policy that hasn't been touched since May 17, 2022, you want a platform that can at least tell you what it encrypts. If it's the price of voice calls, you want someone who doesn't charge $99.99 a month for the privilege. If it's memory, you want context that survives past forty messages. And if it's images and video, you want a currency that doesn't evaporate.

We haven't run long hands-on trials of these apps. What follows comes from published pricing pages, privacy policies, terms and user reports, with prices treated as of 2026. No platform paid for a place on this list. We've ordered things privacy first, features second, because that's the order most people leaving Muah seem to care about.

Quick verdict: pick by your reason for leaving

If you read nothing else, read this table. Each pick is matched to a reason, not to a vague sense of quality.

We rate Secrets AI 9.9 overall, and it's the pick we'd make for most adults leaving Muah. Nomi takes the memory crown. OurDream and Candy win on visuals and price. The rest of this article explains why, and where each one stumbles.

What actually happened at Muah

The breach is the thing most people cite, so let's get it straight. Around 1.9 million emails were exposed, along with typed prompts. Have I Been Pwned added the breach on October 8, 2024 and flagged it sensitive. CyberInsider dates the incident itself to September 17, 2024.

The fallout was worse than a leaked email list. 404 Media reported that some leaked prompts sought child sexual abuse material. Malwarebytes reported extortion attempts using the leaked data. Muah's admin blamed competitors in the uncensored AI industry. As of sources available in October 2026, there has been no public post-mortem and no audit.

Then there's the paperwork. Muah's privacy policy and terms still carry an effective date of May 17, 2022. The policy does not mention encryption at all. That's not proof of bad practice; it's an absence of any stated practice, four years on, from a company that has already had one serious incident.

There are smaller irritations too. Subscriptions are not refundable by default. Checkout shows "Fevermate VIP," which reads oddly if you thought you were buying from Muah. Reviewers put the context window at roughly 40 to 50 messages. Trustpilot has only a handful of reviews, which tells you something about how much users bother to write them up. And the call tier is $99.99 a month.

Muah still works, and it still has features that are rare elsewhere. This isn't a boycott piece. It's a routing guide.

How we chose these alternatives

Three filters, in order.

  1. Privacy statements you can actually read. Does the policy name encryption? Does it say whether chats are used for training? Is deletion immediate or a 28-day process? A platform that says nothing scores worse than one that says something unflattering.
  2. No token trap in the headline price. Several apps sell a second currency for images, video and calls on top of the subscription. That's fine if the arithmetic is honest. It's a trap if the advertised price buys you almost no media.
  3. Features matched to a reason. A memory-first user and a video-first user shouldn't end up on the same app.

Privacy scorecard

Here's the comparison most roundups skip. "Not mentioned" means the policy doesn't address it, not that the platform does something sinister.

PlatformEncryptionSells dataDeletionTrains on chats
Muah AINot mentionedNot statedDelete Account + Wipe Cloud DataNot stated
Secrets AIAES-256 at rest, in transitNo sale statedImmediateYes, may be used
NomiNot end-to-endNoAbout 28 daysKeeps training archives

OurDreamAES at rest, TLS 1.3No24 to 48 hoursYes, may be used
CandyTLS in transitNot statedSettings; up to 3 years otherwiseDe-identified data
NastiaIn transit onlyNoImmediate after cancelNot mentioned

One caveat applies to every app here: none of them offers end-to-end encryption for chats. It can't, really. The companion has to read your messages to answer them. So judge the policy, not the homepage badge. Secrets AI's marketing leans on an end-to-end claim its own policy doesn't support, which is worth knowing before you treat it as a vault.

The twelve alternatives, by strength

Secrets AI: the best overall pick for most adults

Run by Secret Labs Inc. AES-256 at rest, chats deleted immediately when you delete your account, call audio transcribed then deleted with the transcript kept for memory. Billing shows as "S LABS INC." on your statement, which is a small kindness if you share a card.

Pricing: free tier gives 20 messages a day, no media. Premium is $19.99 monthly or about $9.17 monthly on annual. Ultimate is $39.99 monthly for group chat and personas. Calls cost 50 Moments per minute on Premium, and video clips are 600 Moments each. That's a real currency cost, but it's a fraction of Muah's $99.99 call tier, which works out at five times the price of Secrets AI Premium.

The catches: it may train on your chats, and the end-to-end claim isn't backed by the policy. Our Secrets AI review goes through the memory and Moments arithmetic in detail.

Nomi AI: when memory is the reason you're leaving

Nomi's Mind Map stores people, places and events across short, medium and long-term memory. One cited memory test had it recall 23 of 25 user details. If Muah's 40-to-50-message window is what broke your patience, this is the fix.

Pricing: Standard is $15.99 monthly, $39.99 quarterly, or $99.99 yearly, about $8.33 a month. Voice calls are unlimited with built-in voices on paid plans. The policy was updated April 27, 2026, and says Nomi doesn't sell or rent data.

The catches: nude images are banned, deletion takes about 28 days, and Nomi keeps training archives even after you delete. MIT Technology Review reported in 2025 that Nomi gave harmful instructions in a test. Worth weighing if you're coming from a platform that already burned you once.

Kindroid: the customization pick

Kindroid is $15.99 monthly or $159.99 yearly on the App Store. It's encrypted at rest and in transit, doesn't sell data, and doesn't store call audio. Selfies can swap faces in group shots, which is a niche feature you'll either love or ignore.

The catches are sharp. Since October 1, 2026, the free version is a one-time 50-message preview. The 3-day trial requires a card and auto-renews. Calls cost 400 voice credits per minute, so heavy callers should do that arithmetic before subscribing. Flagged content can be reviewed by staff.

OurDream AI: the media pick

From Dream Studio USA, Inc. Annual pricing is $9.99 monthly with unlimited chat and 1,000 dreamcoins a month, roughly 200 images. Video runs up to 60 seconds with optional audio. Voice calls are 50 coins per minute. AES at rest, TLS 1.3, deletion in 24 to 48 hours, no data sales claimed. Free tier chat costs 1 dreamcoin per message; Premium is $19.99 monthly.

The catches: the end-to-end claim isn't supported by the policy, it may train on your data, and media gets blurred if your subscription lapses. Our OurDream AI review covers where the dreamcoins actually go.

Candy.ai: cheapest photoreal images

From EverAI Limited in Malta. Premium is $13.99 monthly, or $3.99 monthly on the annual plan billed at $47.88. That's the cheapest photoreal image tier on this list. Premium includes 100 tokens a month, and the free tier is 5 messages total, which is a demo rather than a free plan.

The catches: memory tends to fade after a few days, data is kept up to three years after last activity, and token costs bite heavy users. Our Candy.ai review has the full token breakdown, and if you're weighing it against another visual-first app, the Candy AI vs OurDream AI comparison puts them side by side.

CrushOn AI: budget unfiltered text

Standard is $5.99 monthly, yearly works out around $4.90 monthly, and tiers run up to $199.99 monthly for Imperial. The free plan gives 100 message credits a month plus unlimited free models, though older roundups described 50 free messages daily, so treat free-tier details as moving. There's a three-level filter: Filtered, Unfiltered and Hidden Content.

The catches: the policy was last modified March 2025 and doesn't mention encryption. Chats are monitored. Free-plan history is deleted after 7 days of inactivity.

SpicyChat: biggest character library

Tiers are $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 monthly, as of September 8, 2026, with yearly about 17% off. The character library is the draw.

The catches: no iOS app, Android is a direct download, and support docs don't mention encryption. Trustpilot sits at 2.1 out of 5. The free tier has a queue and limited memory.

Nastia: the media-heavy option

From Nastia Cybernetics in France. Tiers are $11.99 and $15.99 monthly, with daily token limits on free. 4K selfies, 1080p video and voice cloning sit on the Unlimited tier.

The catches: encryption in transit only, violation records kept 7 years, and you must cancel the subscription before deleting your account. That last one is a genuine trap if you forget.

Replika: emotional support, with a fine attached

Pro is $69.99 yearly, about $5.83 monthly. From Luka Inc. It references past conversations after about three weeks, which is better than most.

The catches: a €5 million GDPR fine in Italy in May 2025. Chats aren't end-to-end encrypted, and upgrade prompts are heavy. Memory still slips.

Character.AI: free and safe-for-work

Free with ads, c.ai+ at $9.99 monthly. Unlimited messaging on the free tier. Character Voice is free for all users, and Character Calls exist.

The catches: NSFW content is banned for everyone, so it's not a Muah replacement if that's what you used Muah for. It shares data with advertising partners, with an opt-out of sales where the law allows. It forgets context between sessions. Open-ended chat is closed to users under 18.

Chai AI: volume, with ads

From Chai Research, over 10 million users claimed. Premium is $13.99 and Ultra $29.99 monthly on the App Store. Free daily limits are about 70 messages.

The catches: ads on rerolls, and 2026 changes moved longer responses behind the paywall.

Talkie AI: cheap, but tame

From Subsup Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. Talkie+ is $9.99 monthly. It bans explicit content and encrypts in transit only.

Kalon AI: vendor claims only

Kalon advertises uncensored chat, voice and images. That's a vendor claim, not something we can confirm from published policy detail. Treat it as a name to check yourself rather than a recommendation.

Voice calls compared

Muah's Ultra VIP call tier at $99.99 monthly is the single most common complaint we see. Here's how the alternatives price calls.

PlatformVoice messagesLive callsCall cost
Muah AIYesYesUltra VIP $99.99/mo
Secrets AIYes (TTS)Yes50 Moments/min Premium
NomiYesYesUnlimited built-in voices, paid
KindroidYesYes, plus video400 voice credits/min
OurDreamNarrationYes50 coins/min
CandyYesBetaTokens
Character.AIYesCharacter CallsCharacter Voice free
CrushOn AIYes, voice cloningNot foundn/a

None of these requires a $99.99 tier to make a call. Nomi's unlimited built-in voices on paid plans is the simplest deal if you call a lot. Secrets AI's 50 Moments a minute is transparent but adds up on long calls.

Images and video

OurDream is the video pick: clips up to 60 seconds with optional audio, at $9.99 monthly annual. Candy is the image pick on price, at $3.99 monthly annual, though tokens run out fast. Secrets AI charges 600 Moments per video clip. Kindroid's face-swap in group selfies is a nice trick if you use group shots. Most alternatives sell a second currency for media on top of the subscription, so read the included allowance before you commit.

Memory, ranked

  1. Nomi. Mind Map, short/medium/long-term memory, 23 of 25 details recalled in one cited test.
  2. Kindroid. Backstory-built characters hold context well.
  3. Secrets AI. Transcripts kept for memory after calls.
  4. Replika. References conversations after about three weeks.
  5. Muah. Roughly 40 to 50 messages, per reviewers.

All of the top three let you build character backstory, which does more for continuity than raw context length.

If you want a genuinely usable free adult plan, CrushOn AI and SpicyChat come closest, with limits. Character.AI's free tier is generous but safe-for-work only.

Note what Muah's Ultra VIP annual works out to: $83.25 a month, every month. That's more than four times Secrets AI Premium's yearly rate for a feature set that is narrower.

Customization

Muah's builder splits a Core Prompt for personality from a Look-Like for appearance, which is a sensible design and one reason people stay. Kindroid goes deeper on backstory and selfie control. Secrets AI adds personas and group chat at the Ultimate tier. OurDream and Candy are more template-driven. If customization is your reason for leaving, Kindroid is the pick.

Matching the app to your use case

  • You left over the breach. Secrets AI, then read the policy yourself. Note it may train on chats.
  • You want calls without a second mortgage. Nomi for unlimited built-in voices, Secrets AI for transparent per-minute.
  • You want photoreal images cheap. Candy at $3.99 monthly annual, with the token caveat.
  • You want video. OurDream, 60 seconds with audio.
  • You want unfiltered text on a budget. CrushOn AI.
  • You want a huge library. SpicyChat, accepting the 2.1 Trustpilot score.
  • You want emotional support. Replika, with the fine on the record.
  • You want free and safe-for-work. Character.AI.

If you'd rather see a longer ranking with costs laid out, our guide to the best AI girlfriend app ranks ten options by what they actually cost.

Switching without leaving a mess behind

  1. Copy your Core Prompt text out of Muah before you delete anything. You'll want it for the new character builder.
  2. Check Have I Been Pwned if your Muah account predates October 2024. If your email is in the breach, change that password anywhere you reused it.
  3. In Muah settings, use Wipe Cloud Data, then Delete Account. Both steps, in that order.
  4. Cancel Muah VIP in settings or with your payment provider. Subscriptions aren't refundable by default, so cancel before the renewal date.
  5. Sign up for the new app with an email that doesn't carry your real name. Cheap insurance, and it makes future breaches less personal.
  6. Start monthly, not annual. Prices and policies move fast. Switch to annual once you know you're staying.
Keep identifying details out of chat, whichever app you land on. No companion app needs your real employer, address or date of birth to roleplay.

Final verdict

Muah is still capable, and its Core Prompt/Look-Like split and call feature are genuinely rare. But a 2024 breach that exposed about 1.9 million emails alongside typed prompts, a policy untouched since May 2022 with no mention of encryption, and a $99.99 call tier are three good reasons to move.

For most adults, Secrets AI is the best balance of privacy statement, voice calls and price; we rate it 9.9. Nomi wins memory outright. OurDream and Candy win visuals and price. CrushOn AI is the budget unfiltered text pick. Read the policy before you pay, start monthly, and keep your identity out of the chat window.

Frequently asked questions

For most adults, Secrets AI: it has live voice calls, workable memory and the clearest privacy statement of the group, with billing that doesn't show the app name. Nomi is the pick if memory matters most, OurDream for video, and Candy for the cheapest photoreal images on an annual plan.

Character.AI is free with unlimited messaging but bans explicit content for everyone. If you want an adult free tier, CrushOn AI's 100 monthly credits plus free models and SpicyChat's queued free chat are the most usable, though both are limited and neither policy mentions encryption.

Secrets AI, Nomi, Kindroid and OurDream all offer live calls, and none requires a $99.99 tier to make one. Nomi includes unlimited built-in voices on paid plans, Secrets AI charges 50 Moments per minute on Premium, and Candy's calls are still in beta.

The platform still works, but the 2024 breach exposed roughly 1.9 million emails plus typed prompts, and Muah's privacy policy still carries a May 2022 effective date with no mention of encryption. If you stay, use a separate email address, check Have I Been Pwned, and keep identifying details out of chats.

Nomi, thanks to its Mind Map, which stores people, places and events across short, medium and long-term memory. Kindroid and Secrets AI come next, and all three let you build character backstory, which does more for continuity than context length alone.
