GuideCandy AI vs OurDream AI: Which One Earns Your Subscription?

Candy AI sells polish and a cheap first year. OurDream AI sells volume, longer video and group roleplay. Here's where the money actually goes.

Two subscriptions, both web-only, both aimed at adults who want an AI companion to talk to. On paper the choice looks simple: Candy.ai starts at $3.99 a month billed yearly, OurDream AI starts at $9.99. Candy is less than half the price, so why would anyone pick the other one?

Because the sticker price is the least interesting number on either pricing page. What you're really buying is credits: tokens on Candy, dreamcoins on OurDream. And the gap there runs the other way, hard. This comparison walks through both platforms on the things that decide whether you renew in month two: image quality, video, memory, character building, credit burn and what happens to your data. We've written fuller reviews of each if you want the deep version.

The short answer

We rate OurDream AI 9.7 out of 10 and Candy.ai 9.8 out of 10. Close, but OurDream edges it, and the reason is value per dollar rather than raw quality. Candy makes better pictures, faster, with a lower barrier to entry. OurDream gives you roughly ten times the monthly credits, longer video, group roleplay and deeper character creation. If you plan to generate media every week, OurDream's economics win comfortably. If you want a cheap, polished start and mostly want good stills, Candy is the smarter first month.

Neither score is permanent. Both platforms ship changes regularly, and credit systems in particular tend to shift. Treat any number, ours included, as a snapshot.

The core difference: polish versus volume

Candy is the more finished product. The interface is clean, setup is quick, and the image generator produces consistent faces with very little fiddling. It supports 13 interface languages. That polish is real and it's why the platform has a large user base.

OurDream is the deeper product. Character creation gives you more to work with, the community library is enormous, and the media allowances are built for people who actually use them. It's English-only and feels rougher around the edges. The trade you're making is straightforward: fewer rough corners versus more stuff to do.

Building a character

Candy's creator is fast. You can define appearance, personality and backstory in a few minutes and get a working character without much thought. Customisation is detailed enough for most people. The catch is cost: testers have reported that an extra custom character runs about 10 tokens, which is a tenth of a monthly allowance on the entry plan.

OurDream asks 10 dreamcoins to create a chatbot, and it gives you far more room to shape one. The bigger draw is the library: the homepage advertises over 11 million community characters, so there's a decent chance someone has already built the scenario you had in mind. Group roleplay works too, either by clicking a portrait or @-mentioning a name to pull a second character into the scene. Candy equivalents weren't confirmed in the material we looked at.

On behaviour, there's a difference in feel. Candy characters tend to agree with you rather than push back, which suits comfort chat and gets dull if you want friction. OurDream's roleplay handles contradiction better, though it's still not a novelist.

Images: Candy's clearest win

For stills, Candy is the stronger tool. Faces stay consistent across generations, the output is polished, and custom selfies reportedly land in under five seconds according to one comparison. At about 4 tokens per image, 100 tokens buy roughly 25 pictures a month.

OurDream's images are good, covering both realistic and anime styles, and 1,000 dreamcoins buy roughly 200 in-chat images at 5 coins each. Two standard images cost 10 coins. So OurDream wins on volume by a wide margin and Candy wins on refinement. If you generate a handful of images a week and care how they look, Candy is fine. If you want to generate constantly, OurDream's math is far friendlier.

Retries cost coins on both platforms, which is worth remembering when you're iterating on a prompt.

Video and voice

This is where OurDream pulls clearly ahead. Its video runs up to 60 seconds, with an Ultra tier at 200 dreamcoins and optional audio at 20 coins per second. Standard video costs 100 dreamcoins per 5 seconds, so a monthly allowance covers roughly 10 short clips.

Candy offers image-to-video at about 12 tokens per clip, meaning 100 tokens get you around 8 clips, and Live Action launched in February 2026 according to one review. Live Action burns tokens roughly three times faster than images. Candy's voice calls cost about 3 tokens per minute and are labelled beta; voice notes are available. OurDream charges 50 dreamcoins per minute for calls and 5 coins per paragraph for narration.

Neither platform has a native iPhone or Android app. Both are browser-based; Candy can be installed as a web app, and OurDream can be added to your home screen. That's a practical limitation, not a fatal one.

Memory and long conversations

We rate Candy's memory 7.2 out of 10 and OurDream's 7.9 out of 10. Neither is strong in absolute terms. Candy's Premium Plus tier reportedly adds 20 memory slots, but chat resets clear them, and storylines have been reported to reset after 48 to 72 hours. OurDream's Genius chat models cost 1 coin per reply and hold context a little better.

The practical advice is the same on both: remind the character of key details, and don't expect a months-long continuous storyline. If long-term continuity is the thing you care about most, it's worth reading our Secrets AI review, which covers memory in more depth than either of these two manages.

Pricing: what you actually pay

Candy AI plans

Premium monthly$13.99/moMonthly100/month
Premium 3 months$8.99/mo$26.97 every 3 months100/month
Premium 12 months$3.99/mo$47.88/year100/month
Premium PlusNot publishedCheckout330/month

Older sites still quote $12.99 monthly and $5.99 annual for Candy. Those figures are outdated; the table above reflects current pricing.

OurDream AI plans

PlanPriceBilledDreamcoins
Free$0n/aNone; 1 coin per message
Premium monthly$19.99/moMonthly1,000/month
Premium annual$9.99/mo$119.88/year2,000 upfront, then 1,000/month

One site claims OurDream caps you at 500 or 2,000 messages. That conflicts with the unlimited-message description on the plan itself.

The credit maths that matters

Top-ups are where the two platforms really diverge. Candy's extra tokens are reportedly sold from $9.99 per 100, which works out to roughly $0.40 per extra image. OurDream top-ups are reported at $11.99 per 1,000 coins, or about $0.06 per extra image. That's close to a sevenfold difference.

Active Candy users often report spending $25 to $60 a month, and some as much as $80, because 100 tokens don't stretch far once you add video and voice. If you're a heavy user, the cheaper subscription stops being cheaper quite quickly. Dreamcoins also don't expire, which helps if you skip a month.

Candy's token system is the single most common user complaint. Worth knowing before you commit to a year.

Free tiers compared

Both are stingy, in different ways. Candy gives you 5 messages in total, 1 character and 1 image. That's enough to see the image quality and not much else. OurDream charges 1 dreamcoin per message on free accounts, gives no media, and won't let you buy coins without a subscription.

Neither free tier tells you much about what paid use feels like. A single month on the cheapest plan is a better test than either.

Privacy and safety

We rate Candy's privacy 7.2 out of 10 and OurDream's 6.9 out of 10. Both need improvements, for different reasons.

Candy is GDPR-compliant, encrypts data in transit, and retains account data for up to three years after your last activity. There's no end-to-end encryption. Billing shows as EverAI, which matters if you share a bank statement.

OurDream encrypts data at rest and in transit and uses SOC 2 Type 2 hosting, which is a solid baseline. The problem is the homepage claim of end-to-end encryption, which its own privacy policy doesn't support. Account deletion takes 24 to 48 hours. Its Automod filter openly admits to being too sensitive, so expect occasional false positives on harmless prompts.

Both ban minors and real-person deepfakes, and OurDream states the latter explicitly. Both are 18+ and marketed as uncensored within their content rules. Neither is a private space in any meaningful sense; keep identifying details out of chats on either platform.

Refunds and payment methods

Candy's refund window is 24 hours, only if you've used 20 tokens or fewer, and card payments only. EU and UK users get a statutory 14-day prorated withdrawal right on top of that. Unused tokens expire at the end of the billing period after you cancel.

OurDream offers 14 days, decided case by case, and refunds are denied past 25% product use. If your subscription lapses, generated images and videos get blurred until you pay again, so download anything you want to keep.

Candy takes Visa, Mastercard, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer and crypto. OurDream takes cards and crypto, with G2A codes as a fallback, but no PayPal. Crypto payments are final on both platforms. Refund policies can change, so read the current one before you pay.

Who should choose which

Pick Candy.ai if image quality is your priority, you want the lowest possible entry price, and you'll use the platform lightly: a chat here, a few pictures there. The $47.88 annual plan is genuinely cheap. Just don't expect 100 tokens to cover video and voice as well.

Pick OurDream AI if you generate media regularly, want longer video with optional audio, want group roleplay, or want to browse a library of over 11 million characters. The higher subscription is offset by roughly ten times the credits and much cheaper top-ups.

Either way, start with one month rather than a year. Watch how fast credits go in your first two weeks. Keep your real name, location and anything identifying out of chats. And ignore the fake apps and promo codes floating around; the official sites are the only safe place to pay.

Verdict

For most paying users, OurDream is the better buy: unlimited messages, 1,000 dreamcoins a month, longer video and deeper creation, at a lower effective cost once you factor in top-ups. Candy wins where it counts for casual users: better stills, faster setup and a low annual price that's hard to argue with for light use.

Our full Candy.ai review and OurDream AI review go deeper on each. If you want one line to take away: choose Candy for pictures and price of entry, choose OurDream for volume and roleplay. Neither will remember your story for months, so back up the good bits yourself.

Frequently asked questions

We rate OurDream AI slightly higher overall, mainly on value and roleplay depth, while Candy.ai takes the win on image quality and entry price. Neither is a runaway winner, and both scores shift as the platforms change.

Candy's subscription is cheaper at $3.99 a month billed yearly versus $9.99 for OurDream. But OurDream includes roughly ten times the monthly credits and sells top-ups far more cheaply, so heavy users usually end up paying less there.

Yes, both are 18+ and market themselves as uncensored within their content rules. Both ban minors, real-person deepfakes and illegal material, and OurDream states the deepfake ban explicitly.

OurDream is marginally better, but neither handles long-term memory well. Candy's storylines have been reported to reset after 48 to 72 hours, so remind characters of key details on either platform.

No native app on either platform. Both run in the browser; Candy can be installed as a web app and OurDream can be added to your home screen.
