GuideCandy AI Alternatives: Ten Apps, Sorted by Why You're Leaving

Most people don't leave Candy AI because the pictures are bad. They leave over tokens, memory or a five-message free tier. Here's which alternative fixes which complaint, and what each one costs.

People rarely leave Candy.ai because the images disappoint. The photorealistic generation is the platform's strongest card, and it still is. They leave because the bill doesn't match the sticker price, because the story resets after a couple of days, or because the free tier gives them five messages and a single character to see whether they like it.

So this isn't a rankings list in the usual sense. It's a list sorted by the reason you're leaving. Find your complaint in the first table, jump to the entries that answer it, and check the token maths before you enter a card number. We've reviewed Candy separately in our Candy.ai review, and we rate it 9.8 out of 10 overall.

Why people leave Candy AI

The complaints cluster into five groups, and each points somewhere different.

A word on the money. Candy AI Premium is listed at $13.99/month, or $3.99/month on annual billing, and includes 100 tokens. Those tokens go fast: roughly 4 per image, about 12 for a short video, 3 per minute of voice call, and 10 to create a new character. Extra tokens start at $9.99 per 100.

One reviewer, Nastia, argues the real cost for an active user lands at $30โ€“$50/month rather than the headline $12.99 and calls it a token trap. Independent reviewers put heavy Candy users at $25โ€“$60/month. Those are other people's estimates, not our testing โ€” we don't run paid accounts โ€” but the per-item token prices are published and the arithmetic is not controversial.

How we picked and sorted these

Four things decide placement here: what the platform charges after the headline price, whether the free tier lets you judge it honestly, how memory holds up over weeks rather than minutes, and what the refund and privacy terms actually say. Where a claim comes from a vendor's own marketing, we say so. Where a number comes from another reviewer or user reports, we say that too.

Nothing on this page was paid for and there are no affiliate links in it. If you want the wider field, our AI girlfriend reviews hub collects every app we've scored in one place.

The ten alternatives, reviewed

1. Secrets AI โ€” for people who left over memory

If your complaint is that Candy forgets the plot, Secrets AI is the obvious first stop. It's built around layered memory, and its premium tier is priced around usage rather than per-image: $19.99/month or $109.99/year, which works out at about $9.17/month, with 8,000 Moments included.

The Moments maths is friendlier than tokens. An image costs 50 Moments, an adult video 600, a voice call 50 per minute. That 8,000 allowance is roughly 160 images or 13 adult videos a month. Your first custom character is free. An Ultimate tier at $39.99/month adds group chats, personas and proactive messages.

The free plan gives 20 messages a day with basic memory โ€” enough to test whether the memory is as good as claimed โ€” but no Moments, so no image generation. Caveats worth knowing: Moments don't roll over, subscriptions are non-refundable except where the law requires it, and it's web-only. EU and UK users do get a 14-day withdrawal right. We rate Secrets AI 9.9 out of 10. For a direct comparison, read Secrets AI vs Candy AI.

2. OurDream AI โ€” for people who left over token costs

OurDream AI fixes the token problem by bundling chat and credits instead of metering every message. Annual billing is $9.99/month ($119.88/year); monthly is $19.99. That includes unlimited chat plus 1,000 dreamcoins a month, which is roughly 200 images or 10 short clips. Videos run up to 60 seconds.

Compare that with Candy: 100 tokens buys about 25 images or 8 short videos. OurDream gives you roughly eight times the image allowance for a lower annual price. Character creation costs 10 dreamcoins out of 1,000 โ€” a rounding error rather than a decision.

Two sharp edges. If your subscription lapses, OurDream blurs all the images and videos you made. And refunds are denied once more than 25% of a purchase is used, with crypto payments final. We rate OurDream AI 9.7 out of 10. If memory matters more to you than media, see OurDream AI vs Secrets AI.

3. Nomi โ€” for people who want an app and long memory

Nomi is the strongest mobile option on this list. Native iOS and Android apps, voice chats, hands-free calls, group chats. App Store pricing is $15.99/month, $39.99/quarter, or $8.33/month billed yearly. The free tier needs no credit card, which is a better first impression than five messages.

Images are separate: Nomi Credits come in packs from $4.99 for 40. Reviewers and user communities consistently rate its long-term memory among the best, though it's weaker at driving a plot forward. One warning from 2026: an image update changed how companions look, and restoring the old appearance cost credits. That upset a lot of paying users. We rate Nomi โ€“ out of 10.

4. Kindroid โ€” for customisation and voice

Kindroid is $15.99/month or $13.33/month annual through the App Store, with Ultra and Max tiers above that. It's native on both platforms and known for deep customisation and voice quality. There's no community character library โ€” you build your own โ€” which suits people who found Candy's preset companions thin.

Budget for extras. Selfies use credits at 50 for $6.99, and extra companion slots cost more. Some users left over tier changes that affected voice promises. Refunds go through Apple or Google, which is a real advantage over web-only platforms. We rate Kindroid โ€“ out of 10.

5. SpicyChat โ€” for a free character library

SpicyChat claims 100 million registered users and over 100,000 community characters. Paid tiers rose in September 2026 to $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95/month. Free chat is unlimited but queues at busy times and carries limited memory. The cheapest paid tier still keeps memory short, and there's no video generation at all. Android app only. We rate SpicyChat โ€“ out of 10.

6. JanitorAI โ€” for free, uncensored story roleplay

JanitorAI is free across the whole platform, including its own model. Janitor+ launched in June 2026 at $12.99/month and adds five times the context plus priority messages. The company told Forbes in May 2026 it has around 2.5 million daily users.

The trade-off is plain: no image, video or voice generation, and more setup before a character feels alive. If you mainly want to write scenes, that's fine. If you want pictures, it isn't the answer. We rate JanitorAI โ€“ out of 10.

7. Nastia โ€” flat pricing and group chats

Nastia prices flat at $11.99/month, or $15.99 for Unlimited, with a free plan that has daily limits. The vendor claims uncensored chat, no per-image charge, voice cloning, group chats with up to 10 companions, and HD uncensored video.

Treat those as claims, not facts. We haven't seen independent verification of the memory or video quality, and the pricing argument is the strongest part of the pitch. Note that the same reviewer who called Candy a token trap is Nastia's own marketing, so weigh that accordingly. We rate Nastia โ€“ out of 10.

8. Kupid AI โ€” voice and images in one plan

Kupid AI Premium is $13.99/month or $84/year, with an Ultimate tier at $49/month ($588/year). There's also a $777 lifetime plan. That last option is a large upfront bet on a small company โ€” fine if you're comfortable with the risk, unwise if you're not. We rate Kupid AI 9.3 out of 10.

9. FantasyGF โ€” cheap annual, but still tokens

FantasyGF's annual plan is reported at $5.83/month ($69.99/year) against $12.99 month to month. Reported plans include 100 tokens/month, with packs from $9.97. That's the same allowance as Candy for a similar top-up price, so if tokens were your complaint, this doesn't solve it โ€” you're just paying less for the base plan. We rate FantasyGF โ€“ out of 10.

10. HeraHaven and Nectar AI โ€” worth a look, with caveats

HeraHaven is listed at $19.95/month or $6.65/month yearly, with 500 tokens/month for images. Nectar AI's reported free plan gives 15 messages and 10 generations daily, but credits reportedly reach $60โ€“$75/month at moderate use โ€” which is the Candy problem again in a different wrapper. We rate HeraHaven โ€“ and Nectar AI 9.6 out of 10.

Other companion platforms

Two more names come up often and deserve a line each. GirlfriendGPT starts at $15/month and is a sister site to SpicyChat. CrushOn AI runs from $5.99/month up to a $199.99 tier; we compared it directly in CrushOn AI vs Candy AI. Character.AI is popular but disallows NSFW chat, so it isn't a true adult alternative to Candy โ€” it's a different product.

Story and image tools

If what you actually used Candy for was image generation with a bit of chat attached, Promptchan is a dedicated image and video generator from $14.99/month. It won't replace a companion, but it's cheaper than buying image tokens on a chat platform if that's all you want.

Token cost breakdown

This is where most of the disappointment lives, so here it is side by side.

PlatformCredits includedApprox. media per monthExtra cost
Candy AI100 tokens~25 images or 8 short videosFrom $9.99 per 100 tokens
Secrets AI8,000 Moments~160 images or 13 adult videosTop-ups for subscribers

NomiCredit packsDepends on packFrom $4.99 for 40 credits
FantasyGF100 tokens (reported)Similar to Candy AIFrom $9.97 per 100 tokens

One detail Candy users discover late: unused tokens expire when you cancel. Buy small top-ups rather than a big block near the end of a billing cycle.

Free tiers and what they actually allow

Candy's free tier is one character, one image and five messages in total. That's not a trial, it's a sample. The alternatives do better.

PlatformFree plan givesMessage limits
JanitorAIWhole platform including its own modelNo hard caps
SpicyChatUnlimited chat with community charactersQueue at busy times
Secrets AIAll companions, basic memory20 messages/day
NomiChat, no credit card to startLimited messages
Nectar AIChat and some generations (reported)15 messages/day

One rule holds everywhere: no free plan includes NSFW image generation. If a platform offers free pictures, they're either limited or filtered.

Images, voice and memory, briefly

Image quality. Candy's images remain its best feature, and if photorealism is the whole point, OurDream and Secrets are the closest equivalents with bigger allowances. Secrets is the pick if you want adult video in the same subscription.

Voice. Secrets charges 50 Moments a minute for calls, which is cheap relative to its image pricing. Nomi and Kindroid both offer voice on mobile, with Kindroid the stronger of the two on customisation. Candy charges 3 tokens per minute, which sounds trivial until you're on a long call.

Memory. Testers report Candy's storylines reset after two to three days. Nastia claims Candy's context fails beyond 10โ€“15 messages, but that's a competitor claim and unconfirmed. Secrets and Nomi are the two names that come up most often for long-term memory in reviews and user communities.

Refunds and cancellation

Candy refunds only within 24 hours and only if 20 tokens or fewer have been used. That's narrow. Platforms billed through Apple or Google โ€” Nomi and Kindroid โ€” route refunds through the app stores, which generally gives you more room. Secrets subscriptions are non-refundable except by law, though EU and UK users get a 14-day withdrawal right. OurDream takes defect reports within 14 days and denies refunds past 25% usage. Crypto payments are final almost everywhere; pay by card if you might want money back.

Privacy and data security

No platform on this list offers end-to-end encryption for chats, whatever the marketing says. Secrets promises AES-256 encryption at rest and chat deletion when you delete your account. OurDream's homepage claims end-to-end encryption, but its privacy policy describes server-side handling and permits training on your data. Candy says de-identified chats may be used to train its models. Treat every chat as readable by the company and write accordingly.

Bottom line

Candy AI is still good at photorealistic images. Leave for a reason, not out of boredom. Token costs: OurDream at $9.99/month annual. Memory: Secrets AI or Nomi. A native app: Nomi or Kindroid. Free chat: JanitorAI or SpicyChat. Start monthly, read the refund terms before you commit to a year, and check the free tier honestly before paying for anything. For the wider picture, our best AI girlfriend app guide ranks ten options by what they actually cost.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on your complaint. Secrets AI is the pick if memory is the issue, and OurDream AI if token costs are, since both keep realistic visuals. Secrets runs $9.17/month on annual billing and OurDream $9.99/month.

Yes. JanitorAI is free across the whole platform for text roleplay, and SpicyChat offers unlimited free chat with a queue at busy times. Neither gives you free NSFW image generation, and no platform does.

Nomi and Kindroid both have native iOS and Android apps. Candy AI, Secrets AI and OurDream AI are browser-only, which matters if you mostly use a phone.

Secrets AI and Nomi come up most consistently among reviewers and user communities. Candy's storylines are reported to reset after two to three days, so it's a common reason to switch.

All the main picks here allow adult NSFW chat with 18+ confirmation, with Character.AI the notable exception since it disallows it. Check each platform's current terms, since policies change.
